About Copper Plating

Copper is a relatively soft and ductile metal with excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. Copper may be deposited either as a bright or dull coating and it is widely used for both decorative and industrial purposes.
Because the electrical conductivity of copper is good, it is an important finish within the electronic and electrical industry. Copper is also widely used as a stopping off material in the case hardening process.

Acid Copper

The main applications for acid copper is for components which require a heavy build up of deposit. Acid copper can be directly applied to metals such as brass, bronze and nickel silver. Steel and zinc components must be given an initial copper strike before being transferred to the acid copper.

Copper Pyrophosphate

Copper pyrophosphate is widely used for plating tubular items which cannot be processed using the acid method, giving a deposit which is smooth and bright with excellent throwing power.

Generally a deposit of 10 microns (0.0004”) of copper is applied on a commercial basis or unless the relevant BS or Aerospace spec. suggests otherwise.
